Here at Horse Creek we do everything we can to
make the lives of our animals as good as we can make them. As
you would expect, we are limited in the amount of personal time
we can give each animal-of course, they think they never get
enough! We are blessed to have a small cadre of animal lovers
who devote a little of their spare time to our dogs, brightening
their days and helping them to get ready for new lives with loving
families.
On any given day you will find these folks in and
around our kennel areas holding dogs, talking sweet talk, walking
dogs on leashes, giving out treats, and generally socializing
the animals.
This extra people contact makes a great difference
in the lives of our residents. Fifteen minutes of your time holding
a puppy in your lap is the high point of that animal's day. Or
a nice, long one-on-one walk with a mature dog makes him feel
very special. Some of the animals who come from abusive situations
learn that they can trust more people than just our staff.
We also have some folks who sometimes come with
us to adoption events and help us to ensure the dogs are always
comfortable. They make sure the animals always have food and
water and that they get out of their crates for routine leg stretching
during the day. This helps to make a very stressful day easier
on the dogs. These folks don't seem to mind the long hours on
their feet in good and bad weather. They share in the joy when
one of our guys finds a great home.
If you are interested in getting involved in this
rewarding experience, please complete the Volunteer
Interest Statement and send it to us by email or regular
mail. We'll get back with you as soon as we can and send you
some detailed materials about our programs.
Thank you for your concern about the animals. We
appreciate the support of all our volunteers, friends and adoptive
families. |
