Barney came to Horse Creek from the Animal Shelter
on August 6, 2003, along with his brother and two sisters. About
5 weeks old, they were brought to the shelter (along with three
other pups) on a sweltering hot day in the back of a pickup truck
with a black plastic bed liner. They were terrified and trying
to hide under black plastic bags full of garbage.
We arrived at the shelter shortly after the pups
did, and they were obviously suffering from heat stress and dehydration.
We brought them home with us and started treatment. Within a
matter of hours you could see a big difference. After one day,
a dose of wormer medication, and all the food they could hold,
they were playing like they had a new lease on life (which they
did!).
The pups had obviously not had much human contact,
and Barney was the shyest of the pups. They were very grateful
for our attention but preferred not to be held. After working
with them as much as time permitted, they became very friendly
and loving. Barney is still with us and getting more confidence
all the time. He needs a family who will spend the time to make
him feel safe. Then he will adore you forever! He'll never be
the gregarious one, but he will be the lover. He has had all
his vaccinations, is neutered, and is looking for a special home.
